Screw Fixation for Fracture of the Femoral Head Combined with the Ipsilateral Dislocation of the Hip

Abstract
The fracture of femoral head with concommittant hip dislocation is very rare and the choice of it¢¥s treatment is still controversial. Various methods of treatment such as Judet prosthesis (Palin, 1954), mold arthroplasty (Lipscomb, 1958), Thompson endomedullary prosthesis (Burman, 1958), and bone peg fixation have been adopted without much success, but Sarmiento and Laird (1973) recently reported a case of femoral head fracture that was successfully treated with screw fixation of the fracture fragmeats.
The authors present a case of femoral head fracture combined with dislocation of ipsilateral hip that was treated successfully by the Sarmiento¢¥s screw fixation method. A two year follow-up indicated a normal hip function, restored without sequellae. The authors consider this method very valuable as a first step treatment.
